Introduction Post

My name is Heather Balliet. I am 19 years old. I am the youngest of two in my family. My older sister is married and has two wonderful boys who I absolutely adore. I have one dog named Lokie. She is a German Shepherd/Staffordshire Terrier mix. She is my baby girl!!
(Photo of Lokie, taken by me)
I am a sophomore majoring in Health and Exercise Science and minoring in Business. I want to graduate and go on to physical therapy school and eventually open up my own practice. But if that doesn't work out, I also want to open up my own scuba diving business where I can teach others to scuba dive and to take trips to exotic places to dive at. I am currently enrolled in this class, Beginning French, General Chemistry, and I am also taking Anatomy and Physiology I online.

I am currently a coxswain on the women's rowing team. As for hobbies, I love to read, watch movies, and paint (even though I'm not very good at it haha). Photography is starting to become a hobby of mine. I also love exploring, camping, and traveling. I have this new goal/bucket list where I want to travel to a new place every year.

I definitely laid in bed almost the entire break. I got caught up on American Horror Story and had a lot of movie marathons with some friends. I also reread all of the Harry Potter books (I'm definitely a Harry Potter nerd :) ). My favorite books would probably have to be The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and anything written by Nicholas Sparks. My favorite movies are The Little Mermaid and She's The Man and my favorite TV shows are Pretty Little Liars, American Horror Story, and anything Bachelor related haha.

  1. What an adorable picture of your dog, Heather! I should make a "gallery of pets" or something... it's so much fun to see the animals that are part of people's lives. I wrote about our two cats in my intro post too. :-)
And your scuba-diving dream sounds so cool: maybe you can do "stories of the ocean" from around the world or something like that. I don't know where the best places to scuba dive would be... but I bet for sure that the people who live in those places have some awesome stories about the mysteries of the world under the sea! Anyway, you can see what you think as you explore the class. There's an awesome story about the world under the water in one of the Japanese units, kind of a Rip Van Winkle story, but underwater! Uraschimataro and the Turtle (It's one of my favorite stories that I remember loving even when I was a little kid!)

  2. Well, while I don't agree with the decision, I do see the value and enjoyment of a dog. I grew up in a house with a couple of amazing basset hounds and then we had a maltese. I do like dogs, but I LOVE cats. They are my spirit animal. As for your break, that sounds amazing. I could spend the rest of my life watching Netflix and re-reading the Harry Potter series.

  3. What kind of specific physical therapy did you want to go into? Do you imagine yourself serving a particular age-range of clientele?

Scuba diving? Awesome! How much experience do you have? I personally have never gone scuba diving or been trained in it. Do you have any locations that you'd want to set up shop if you wind up going that route?

  4. Hi Heather! I have never heard of or seen a German Shepherd/Staffordshire Terrier mix, but he is precious, and seems pretty full of tricks. In high school, I was super into health, so I wanted to become a physical therapist, but then decided to pursue a path that was more art oriented.

I have always wanted to go scuba diving, but it intimidates me. I wouldn't want to get trapped super far underwater and blank with what I needed to do to get air. It is great that you love it though! My fiancé has a company called Keep Exploring, which is centered around going outside and enjoying God's creation whether that is going on exotic trips or simply going to a new place in your hometown.

  5. Hey, Heather! I like your name. ;) I love the picture of your dog! So cute. Opening your own scuba diving business would be awesome! I'm assuming you scuba dive often, then? I've never been, but I plan on doing it soon, hopefully this summer.
Ahh, American Horror Story is so good! I need to watch the newest season, but I know if I start it I'll end up binge watching it and forget about college, haha. Anyways, I hope the semester goes well for you!

  6. Hey Heather! I think your goal to travel to a new place every year is great! Traveling is so much fun and experiencing new places can be amazing. Photography goes right along with that and it can help you create great ways to remember your travels by.
I love She's the Man, Harry Potter, and American Horror story! I wish I could have spent my break watching/reading them. I hope you have a great semester!

  7. Hi Heather, your dog looks like quite a character from that picture! I’ve never been scuba diving, but it sounds like it would be a great time- especially in some exotic location. I’m minoring in health and exercise science and I’ve really enjoyed all of the classes I’ve taken for it. Physical therapy is a great career choice and I hope it works out for you!

  8. Hey Heather! It's really cool that you are on the row team here! I'm a journalist and wrote a story over Reagan Collins who is also on the row team a few semesters ago. Your coach invited me out to practice with you guys on the river and it was freezing! I can't imagine how cold it must be for you guys. She allowed me to go on the boat with her and film practice so that was super cool. Probably the best part was watching the sun rise over the water. That definitely made it all worth it.

  9. Hi Heather! It is nice to meet you. We both have the same major and plans after graduation….Health and Exercise Science and Physical Therapy School. I actually have already applied to Physical Therapy school, so I am just crossing my fingers and waiting for the letter in the mail. I also like the fact you’re your back up plan is to open your own scuba diving business. That would be such a fun career. Your dog is absolutely adorable, she seems very sweet.

  10. Hello Heather! Your intro is so interesting! You seem to be invested in a lot of different hobbies and activities, that's awesome! I'm impressed you manage to do so much while on the women's rowing team, you must have a busy schedule! I think it is awesome you want to open a scuba diving business. I've always wanted to go scuba diving!! Good luck with your semester. Looking forward to reading your stories in this class.

  11. Oh my goodness! You are so lucky!! I wish I had a niece or nephew to play with. I don't want kids of my own at the moment. I just want to play with the cute little baby for like 48 hours and return it. Lol. I have two puppies. They are like two little grandmas. It's good that you have concrete goals. At 19, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I'm 22 and I'm still not sure what I would like to do. There are too many options. I like the color that you have chosen for your blog. It is very inviting and upbeat. I wish you the best during your collegiate career!

  12. Hey, Heather! It’s great to meet you. I think that your career goals are so exciting and also so wonderful. It’s great to see people with big dreams who are willing to put in the work to get there. I also like your idea of a bucket list. I always think of things that I want to put on there, but I need to write mine out so I actually get them done. Anyways, have a great semester!

  13. Nice to meet you Heather! That's cool you're on the rowing team! American Horror Story is one of my favorite shows also, it's an awesome show! Your dog is super cute too! Either of your plans for the future seems like a good plan, people will always need physical therapists and there will always be people that want to learn to scuba dive! Good luck with everything moving forward.

  14. Hey Heather! First off, your dog is absolutely precious! She seem like she has quite the personality! I, like you, am a bit of a Harry Potter nerd too haha. I could honestly reread the series over and over again and it never get old. I also am a pre-health major (pre-physician's assistant), so I totally know how daunting the science classes can get. Best of luck to you in the rest of your classes this semester, and I'm looking forward to reading some of your stories! :)

  15. Hi Heather!

It's nice to virtually meet you. We are similar because I am also the youngest in my family. It definitely has its perks! Your dog, Lokie, looks like a very awesome dog. Man, I just love dogs. They are understanding and supportive and just fun to have around. Also, I saw that you are on the rowing team. Wow, you must be in great shape. That is a very tough sport.

I think it is great that you want to be a physical therapist! There is such a large need for that and good therapists make a big difference for people recovering from injury. I wish you the best of luck with the rest of the semester!
